Best Day Trips From Tamarindo
When you are visiting the beautiful beach of Tamarindo Costa Rica, you will probably want
to take a day trip or two to see all the sites and experience all the adventures nearby.
Here is a list of the 8 best day trips to take from Tamarindo. All of them include drives that
make a 1-day adventure manageable. You will be back to your hotel or home in Tamarindo
at the end of day tired – but oh so happy!
Less Than 1-Hour Drive
1. Black Stallion Eco Park
Black Stallion provides an incredibly easy day trip for Tamarindo guests and residents.
Situated only 10 to 15 minutes outside of Tamarindo, Black Stallion allows visitors to
experience the Eco Park, try the fast zip lines, take horseback rides, and eat delicious BBQ.
It is a simple and exciting way to get away from the beach for the day and see something
new.
2. Snorkeling at Playa Conchal
Spending a day at Conchal is an entirely different experience than spending the day in
Tamarindo. Conchal’s beach is not the surf haven that Tamarindo provides, but many times
throughout the year you can go snorkeling and see a large variety of fish right off the sand.
That sand – by the way – is unique in its own way, made up of small, refined pieces of
seashells. Grab a local lunch in next-door Brasilito.
3. Hanging Out At Playa Flamingo
Flamingo is a quick 30-minute drive from Tamarindo and it offers a calmer, more relaxing
environment for the day trip. You can spend the whole day simply soaking up the sun or
wading in the gentle waves, but it can also be fun to schedule an adventure day. Deep-sea
fishing is a popular activity here.
4. Eating At Lola’s In Avellanas
Visiting Playa Avellanas is a great day trip excursion. Even though it is another beach in
Guanacaste, Avellanas has a very different feel from Tamarindo; less is going on in general
so relaxation is the name of the game. The local restaurant Lola’s has received national
attention. Try their frozen mojitos!
5. Golf Excursions
There are three golf courses near Tamarindo we recommend you visiting during your stay.
Two are around 30 minutes away and one is a little over an hour away – and all have
stunning views and championship courses.
Less Than 3-Hour Drive
6. Rincon de la Vieja
At only 2 hours away, Rincon is the perfect volcanic experience to step aside from
Tamarindo without too much travel. Rincon is a beloved adventure spot for day trips. You
can hike, climb, repel, ride, and experience endless fun while in the midst of gorgeous
beauty.
7. Palo Verde National Park
From Tamarindo, you can drive to Palo Verde in about 2 hours. A common excursion at this
national park is a boat ride. You can always see diverse plant life and during the right time
of the year, you can spot a large variety of animal life too.
3-Hour Drive
8. Rio Celeste
Taking a hike to the Rio Celeste waterfall is a wonderful day trip from Tamarindo. Located
in the Tenorio National Park, Rio Celeste can drive to from Tamarindo in less than 3 hours.
This is the farthest trip we will mention for a day trip, but as long as you pack a lunch and
bring some water bottles this adventure hike will make for a long, but extremely exciting
day.
