Tamarindo, Costa Rica - Climate and Weather
With its sandy white beaches and nearly perfect year round climate you can enjoy sun filled days in Tamarindo almost 365 days a year. Just 9 degrees above the equator, this subtropical climate gets lots of sunshine and hot days. Throughout the year it remains warm never dipping below the 70s, and at most requiring a long sleeve shirt during the rainy season. The ideal weather conditions are one of the biggest attractions to the country.
Near the beach, temperatures tend to be hotter and the weather drier, whereas when you get up into the hills, the temperature tends to be cooler as well as wetter. Many people prefer to live in the hills rather than on the beach because the climate is milder and more comfortable.
Low Season
May through October is the low season. September and October are the coolest and rainiest months. It’s also known as the wet or green season. You can expect daily afternoon showers for an hour or two. Late in the rainy season, Costa Rica can be hit with big storms and it can rain for a few straight days in a row, but generally it remains sunny for most of the day.
High Season
November through April is the high season. In November, the rains stop, marking the beginning of the high season. In December, the offshore Papagayo winds begin continuing through January and February creating excellent surfing conditions. High season is big for tourism and vacationers, and the population swells in vacation destinations such as Tamarindo.
There are few places in the world that can rival Costa Rica’s near perfect weather and pristine natural setting. It’s the perfect place to unwind, slow down and catch a wave.
