Why Tamarindo Can Be Your Retirement Heaven
Expats flock to Costa Rica for all its wonderful sunshine, but not everyone realizes how
diverse this little Central American country can really be. Each city will offer you a brand
new set of pros and cons. Which is the right one for you to retire in?
Well, choosing to retire in Tamarindo in the Guanacaste region of Costa Rica may be a great
bet for your retirement heaven.
1. Pura Vida
Nothing says “Congratulations! You’re done working!” like the Pura Vida culture of Costa
Rica. Locals value the pure life concept in every area of their lives – and you should too.
Slow down a bit, give yourself extra permission to enjoy, help out your neighbor, and soak
up every joy life offers.
2. Mix of Convenience and Nature
How many other places can you retire where you have the conveniences of grocery stores,
yoga studios, restaurants, bars, banks, etc. while also having howler monkeys right on the
streets you walk down? Tamarindo provides retirees with a mixture of modern
convenience with the raw dirt streets of Costa Rica life.
3. The Weather
No retirees have to worry about cold snaps in this tropical land. This temperate country
offers year-round warmth. The only major “seasons” are wet and dry. April-November you
can expect rain on most days. Come December you may not see another rainstorm for
months. Tamarindo does boast some of the lowest rainfall in Costa Rica.
4. Beautiful Beaches
Tamarindo Beach and Langosta Beach offer retirees daily beauty – only minutes away from
home. Grab a mojito or cold Imperial and watch a stunning sunset each night of the week.
Surf or swim with the tourists on the hopping Tamarindo Beach. Catch some rays or read
your book on the quiet Langosta Beach.
5. Great Restaurants
Sure, one reason to retire in Costa Rica would be the fresh local food: plantains, beans,
lettuce, crisp lettuce, and grilled meats. But when you choose to retire in Tamarindo, you
can get your fill of the tasty local cuisine without foregoing your other favorites. In
Tamarindo you can still find sushi, BBQ, and European delights.
6. Medical Facilities
Tamarindo is home to multiple bilingual doctors’ offices. You are also about an hour drive
away from the larger hospital in Liberia and four hours away from the fabulous CIMA
hospital in San Jose.
7. Tamarindo Real Estate
Costa Rica real estate may not have been as cheap as it once was. The benefits that draw
expats and retirees to Tamarindo also draw tourists. That means prices can be a bit higher
in this area than other areas. But when you compare the prices of properties in the U.S. or
Europe with that close proximity to the beach and/or jungle environments, you cannot beat
the Tamarindo real estate.
